Alopecia Areata

Back to Female Hair Loss Conditions
Alopecia areata (AA) is an auto-immune skin condition in which white blood cells attack growing hair, causing it to fall out. This condition most commonly affects younger women and children, though it is not fully known what triggers it. For some, it is irreversible, but for many it is not permanent.

Any hair on the body could fall out with this condition, which is most often diagnosed after shiny, smooth patches of scalp become clearly visible through the hair.

One of the worst parts of alopecia areata is that it is unpredictable – some people lose a few patches of hair, then get it back only to lose it again later. Hair loss can happen suddenly, over just a few days.

While it is not painful, this is a condition that can seriously affect people psychologically. It is common to feel powerless, since there is no clearly understood cause or cure for alopecia areata, and many sufferers have to battle the condition for several years.

Some commonly prescribed treatment options are:
  • Steroid injections
  • Topical solutions to irritate the skin to promote re-growth or to decrease inflammation around the hair follicle
  • Immunotherapy
  • Immunosuppressive tablets (these are known to have significant side effects)

How Hair Flair can help you manage your alopecia areata

There is a pronounced sense of shame associated with having unsightly bald spots on the scalp, which is a major part of the difficulty of this condition.

As with other hair loss conditions, women with alopecia areata try to cover up their heads with hats and wigs and scarves, but at the end of the day they have to take those coverings off and see their patchy natural hair in the mirror. The stress of that reality can worsen their condition.

With our Nano-link extensions and a top closure, no one would be any the wiser that you were struggling with alopecia areata!

Nano-link extensions are the smallest and lightest hair extensions on the market, and were created specifically with medical hair loss in mind.
Our tiny Nanos extensions are attached almost unnoticeably even to very thin hair, and can be used for up to a year (with regular maintenance appointments). Because our extensions are so light, and because they are installed and maintained by trained professionals, they will not damage even the most fragile hairs.

We also offer top closure hair pieces which install in seconds and will make a seamlessly drastic improvement on the look of the hair on the top and front of your head. The combination of extensions and a topper will give you such a full head of beautiful hair that, instead of averting their eyes, people will be complementing you!

All of our products are made of top-quality human hair with cuticles intact for the most natural look possible.
